I've had a lot of friends ask about spells to help overcome obstacles lately, so I started looking into such spells. I'm a giant nerd and I love research, so I wasn't surprised to see that some variation of this type of spell exists in basically every culture. This particular version is basically a cobbled together version based off similar spells from a Neopagan/American Folk Magic/Hoodoo tradition. As is usual, it's a spell that can be varied to fit a lot of needs.
Crossroads way opener spell
to get obstacles out of your way so you can achieve what you want.
Things you need:
A small candle, preferred white or orange
Crystals and herbs- different ones to correspond to what kinds of obstacles you are trying to overcome. For example, anything for academic matters like getting into college, motivation and memory for studying, passing your finals, etc. would correspond to things like Rhodonite, Carnelian, Amethyst, Fluorite, Obsidian, Aventurine, Citrine, Tiger’s Eye, Hematite, and Clear Quartz. Popular herbs for this kind of spell are lemongrass, cinnamon, basil, dandelions, sage, and lemon or orange peel.
An offering for the spirits at the crossroads- you can’t take it back, so make sure it’s nothing you’ll want in the future. Fruit/honey/alcohol/incense/flowers are all a pretty safe bet, but if you want to work with specific gods or goddesses, research if there is anything they like in particular.
Crossroads dirt
This spell can be worked outdoors or indoors with variation.
This spell is ideally performed at a crossroad (three-way or four-way), however if you are able to do this spell in a secluded open area outdoors, that should be sufficient also. Best performed at dusk, but be safe, if you need to do it in broad daylight that will work just fine.
With supplies for the spell ready, you can place the crystals in your pocket and light the candle which you can hold (if safe to do so) or you can place on the ground (be careful not to knock it over) or a table nearby (if you have an outdoor altar – even better). Scatter the herbs around the crossroads, leave some of them to place with the offering.
Set your intention of what you would like to manifest in your life, which blockages that you would like to remove, what you would like to be able to achieve or attain. Write this down on a piece of paper three times over (same sentence(s), three times in a row,) and then write your name and birth date over the top of that at a right angle (so make the two sets of writing cross over one another.) Then fold the paper up three times and set it under the candle.
Place your offering to the crossroads spirit(s) or your god/goddess on the ground at the crossroads, or nearby indoors if you can’t be at a crossroads. Tell the spirits or god out loud that it is an offering in thanks for their help with your petition. State your petition to them. Yes, it might feel silly like you’re talking out loud to no one. But odds are decent that at some point, you’re going to get a very strong feeling that you’re not alone, even if you can’t see anyone else. Leave your offering at the crossroads when you leave and do not attempt to retrieve it- you can reposition it if you feel you need to in the coming days, but don’t remove it from the crossroads. And when you leave the crossroads right after this spell is complete, do NOT look back and watch for anything coming into the crossroads unless it’s necessary for traffic purposes. Basically, don’t spy on spirits and gods coming to check out your offering. It’s considered quite rude. Don’t be rude to gods.
If you’re working indoors, you can take the offering to a quiet place in the house, or more ideally outside the house, to leave in an accessible but private place.
If at a crossroads: With a handful of crossroads dirt, toss the dirt around you counterclockwise at each direction of the crossroads. Start at the northern point or close to North then counterclockwise to each direction and toss the dirt on the path or road leading towards you.
If not at a crossroads: With a handful of crossroads dirt, place the dirt around the candle counterclockwise at each direction from North to West to South to East then North again.
Recite:
With this crossroads dirt,
I remove all blockages in my way;
may my desires manifest,
With these words to (your deity), I pray
may my path be blessed.
May this spell not reverse
or place upon me any curse.
So let it be.
Leave tea light to burn on its own in a safe place. If outdoors, you can leave it at the crossroads to the side of the road IF there is no burn ban or possibility that it will cause a brush fire. You can always take the candle home and re-light it there to let it burn out more safely. Once the candle has completely burned out over top of the paper you have your intention written on, either bury the candle remains and the paper at the crossroads, or burn the paper and scatter the ashes at the crossroads.
